As we watch television we end up watching the same spot of the program we watched yesterday or someday ago. It usually is at the exact spot you started to watch the program on earlier day. Say, you were watching The Big Bang Theory, and you happened to watch the episode where they are discussing about topic of the Couch. Next time you watch TB you will end up watching the same episode from the exactly the same time you started up the last time you were watching it. Weird!.
And apparently this happens to many people who watch TV. If it were an independent phenomenon, we could reject it due to coincidence and personal recording bias. But it seems to be a general thing. So then we got to find some reasons for this!
Theory G:
People change channels when the advertisements are on. So then, we surf with the remote. Since most Channels start and stop the programs at the Hour or hour and half period, we end up with all channels synchronised with each other. Say StarTV is playing program A at 9pm. AXN plays program B which also starts at 9pm. You watch "A" cos you like it and there is nothing better to do. At 9:05 StarTV decides its time to make you pay by showing you ADs. You being a smarter man, simply pick the channel and change to AXN. Now you take off from 9:05 on AXN program "J" at 9:07 AXN wants you to pay them with Ads. So then you switch back to StarTV cos you are SMART!!! Of course you do this through the the next 30 minutes. Some days later you are watching something else on StarTV and since the time period between the Ads and program is the same for all programs, you end up surfing after 5 minutes. AXN is showing you Rerun of the program "J" and you end up at the same spot of program "J" every time.
Theory C:
Our brains are tuned such that, it sorts out what we like. So as you surf you see the same spot of program "J". Brain recognises it. You realise you have not completely seen this program and so try to watch it. Then you realise you are always at this SPOT. "Shcuks, I got to see this for the next 5 minutes till I can see the part I missed yesterda." And we change the channel hoping to come back to this channel in few minutes, which we forget.
Deja-vu TV.
