Learning to Teach Life Lessons

My son has taught me more in few months than my life time. Its when we attempt to show the way to another person do we realise the many landmarks and twists that lay enroute. Thus I have decided to list the many thumb rules of life lessons for easy recall.

First and foremost and oft repeated to deaf ears is the saying that there is no replacement to hardwork. It is true for every single successful accomplishment of our life. Even if we were good at particular sport, it was because we spent hours playing it and getting good at it.
"There is no substitute for Hard Work."

Hardwork does not guarantee success but no work increases the failure rate to sky high. If you love your work then working hard is effortless.

Nothing is impossible to achieve as long as you give it 10000 hours of effort. No body and that means no one
has become expert in anything without spending at least 10000 hours on the subject. Any genius is so because
he or she did a lot of that subject matter in the childhood or around that.

Really its true cos my 'not yet 2 year' old son speaks english even though we have not made any attempt to
teach him. Just exposure to the topic and overhearing has given him the ability to speak and understand.

Take any skill you are interested to master and take your time to learn it. Persist at it and you will be able to master it finally. You may not be a Mozart or Einstien or Tiger Woods in a year or even two, but in few years you will get close, really close.

However it is ones ability to spot opportunity and seize it that guarantees fruitful outcomes.

To do this we never should feel any shyness in asking for the needed information. Questions why lead us to solutions. Questions how lead us to ideas and new methods. Ask who to find the person for the job. When and where help us to be efficient and organised in reaching the goals. So seeking information should become second nature to be able to spot opportunities.

Instilling confidence, making one feel entitled to seek the particular info is necessary for the personality to remove fear.

Feel the vision, dream the vision, live it breathe it and things seem to make the path to your goal. Shahrukh plays a character who says in the movie 'om shanthi om'

// 'if you love something with all your heart, then the
entire universe conspires to unite you with your desire'//

However lame it may sound, this is more true than we let ourselves believe in it. Look at it as a more simpler explanation. If you truly want something your senses will be tuned towards the informations in our daily life that will contain wyas to achieve it. We will be reading books, surfing the net etc and only those particular set of words will stick in the head that we care about. And strangely it might seem we find the opportunities all around us. And then when we feel confident enough to attempt to grab it and make use of it we take successful steps.

Instilling such values and removing fears are the responsibility of parents and teachers. A little encouragement and appreciation goes a long long way than fear and punishments. Memories of happy times are more fresh than repressible painful times of our lives.

Parents, elders, relatives, community members etc impart culture and values. These create backbones of the personality of a man or woman. Right and wrong are defined here. At the same time there are many values and personalities that are imparted to younger generations. They are hidden in our daily lives but hugely contribute to our success in our lives. These life tools have evolved over generations. Therefore deeper cultural roots are a boon. Yet these cultural ethos are hurdles to velocity of progress of the person. Certain values that keep society sane makes one feel less entiteled to certain knowledge. Yet he who marries off his values to need to seek the information moves faster than wind.

An older kid even by few months is usually in an advantage owing to more experience and physical development. Alternately a kid who learns more per day is better off than one who learns less. Unfortunately, the same may not be easily replicable in physical activities. Yet concerted effort can reduce such disadvantages in sports and games in the longer run.

High Intelligence Quotient or IQ does not ensure success. Just because a boy is smart, has great aptitude for maths or science will not make him the top person in the field. That is because most people in a given field will have the same IQ. IQ above average to genius do not have significant differences in success rates statistically.

But add to this the secret ingredient - A sense of entitlement or confidence with cultural values and the success rate zooms up.

Ability to assess the other persons needs and emotions and talking to that in ways to please and satisfy makes a great impression and bonding between people. Such network of friends or colleagues finally give you the
lift up in the 'life game'.

No one can stop you from asking questions about things that you don't know as long as you ask it politely.

If you do not get the answer immediately then persist gently with yourself and others.

Work 10000 hours on your choice of topic to become its master.

Try to be the oldest kid in class for physical advantages in sports and games.

The English language is terrible medium to learn thing like Maths or First Language at childhood etc. Its
a jumbled language that does not have logical flow to it. One intuitively cannot follow a logical trail in counting,
making sentences etc. There are more exceptions and special rules than other languages. And yet in the present day it is one of the important World Language.
